Preventive Dental Care

Routine dental care matters.

Good dental care for pets not only keeps them from having bad breath and toothaches, but studies also show that it can prevent more serious illnesses.  Over time, bacteria lead to plaque and tartar buildup on your pet’s teeth. The result is bad breath, reddened gums, and other common signs of dental disease.  Infections that can enter through the gums and mouth may lead to heart disease and kidney disease.  Oxford Veterinary Hospital’s veterinarians and staff can help you set up a dental care plan that will prevent decay and promote your pet’s continued health.

Dental Checkups

When your pet comes to Oxford Veterinary Hospital for his or her annual health exam, our veterinarians will carefully examine the health of the teeth, gums, and the inside of the cheeks and mouth. Depending on the condition of the teeth, any signs of decay, or buildup of plaque, our Vets may recommend an in-office, sedated dental cleaning. Most pets benefit from a professional cleaning once a year.

At-Home Care

Like you, your pets need regular teeth brushing to keep plaque from building up and to promote good gum health. The staff and veterinarians at Oxford Veterinary Hospital can help you work with your pet to make dental care a regular and accepted part of his or her daily routine.  In addition to pet toothbrushes and cat and dog friendly toothpastes, we have a selection of dental chews and treats that can substantially reduce plaque and improve the condition of gums and teeth.

We want your pet to live a long, healthy life, and we understand that maintaining a healthy mouth is part of that. Your pet’s health is important to us, so let us help you with this commitment.
